Salvatore Gianino

As the Director of the Intellectual Property Clinic, Professor Gianino teaches a clinic seminar and supervises clinic students in providing legal services to the community on a pro bono basis in the areas of copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, and right of publicity.  He also teaches a course entitled Foundations of Intellectual Property, which compares philosophers in terms of their theories on property and examines the history of intellectual property law in the early American republic.

In the law school’s graduate degree programs, Professor Gianino teaches a survey course on intellectual property, and he has taught courses on constitutional law and legal writing as well.  Additionally, he serves as a faculty advisor for Juris Scientiae Doctoris (JSD) degree candidates in writing their dissertations.

Professor Gianino’s research interests are in the history of intellectual property.  His research is currently focused on the treatment of intellectual property in eighteenth-century America, particularly during the American Revolution.
