Lloyd Palans is senior counsel at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP and is a well-known bankruptcy practitioner concentrating in business reorganizations, bankruptcy litigation and creditors’ rights on a national basis. He concluded significant representations for the Firm on behalf of Energizer Holdings, Inc. in a hostile Section 363 acquisition in the Chapter 11 proceedings of American Safety Razor (the largest manufacturer of private-label wet shave products) for $900 million following a three-day trial in Wilmington, Delaware, and on behalf of Monsanto Company in the Solutia, Inc. Chapter 11 proceedings in the Southern District of New York involving in excess of $10 billion in contingent exposure litigation risks. Other significant cases handled by Mr. Palans have included serving as counsel for publicly traded debtors, secured lenders, indenture trustees, and creditors’ committees. He also served as the court-appointed examiner in the Apex Oil Company Chapter 11 proceedings as well as other examiner engagements. He serves on the adjunct faculty at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, teaching a course on Chapter 11 reorganizations for the past 26 years. He frequently lectures for professional groups and trade associations, both nationally and locally. He has published articles for the Practicing Law Institute, the Washington University Law Quarterly, the Washington University Journal of Law & Policy, and is a contributing author to Advanced Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Practice, Wiley Law Publications. He is a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy, and served as Regent for the Eighth Circuit.
