Congratulations to Richard A. Rothman, JD ’78, who was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from New York Law Journal’s New York Legal Awards. The awards celebrate attorneys and firms in the state that have made remarkable contributions to the legal profession.
Rothman is Special Pro Bono Counsel and former Co-Head of Complex Commercial Litigation practice at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. He served as lead counsel for American Airlines, Thomson Reuters, GE, Lehman Brothers, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Sanofi Aventis, and Sotheby’s. Since 2017, Rothman has devoted his time to pro bono representations and public service work. In his role as Special Pro Bono Counsel he helps steer Weil’s pro bono priorities while playing lead roles on matters representing victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Additionally, Rothman founded the Incarcerated Gender Violence Survivors Initiative, a coalition of over 15 law firms that assists women serving long sentences for crimes committed against their abusers.
