WashULaw’s Jordan Smith (3L), Deionna Ferguson (2L), Pedro Ramos (2L), and “Buddy” Phipps (3L), pictured here, finished first in the Regional Competition of the ABA Labor and Employment Law Competition in Chicago, Illinois on November 4-5. The team went undefeated and swept the championship with a 4-0 decision.
One of 16 regions, the Chicago Regional is considered the most competitive moot court competition in the country with four law schools with multiple national championships competing.
In addition to WashULaw, Northwestern, Loyola of Chicago, and Chicago Kent are also regular participants.
The teams were coached by Coach Judge David Mason and Assistant Coach Randall Brachman. Members gain extensive training in trial advocacy, including evidentiary objections, trial skills, and trial strategy.
The ABA/LEL national championship will be held in New Orleans in January, 2019.
