WashULaw offers three certificates for concentrated study in specific areas. 

JD Certificate in Public Interest Law

WashULaw’s Certificate in Public Interest enables JD students to demonstrate their commitment to public service careers and to tailor their course of study to pursue their particular public interest passion. Our comprehensive curriculum, which provides vast academic and experiential learning opportunities, prepares students for careers in fields such as legal aid, public defense, social justice, civil rights, children’s rights, and immigration. Students with this certificate work in a range of public service practice settings, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations and foundations, private public interest law firms, and international NGOs.

JD Certificate in Business & Corporate Law

The Certificate in Business and Corporate Law provides JD students an opportunity to acquire the advanced training necessary to become a well-rounded business lawyer. The curriculum in this area equips students with a strong understanding of fundamental aspects of business and corporate law, while also allowing them to delve deeply into specialized areas of interest such as corporate finance, law and economics, publicly traded corporations, regulatory compliance, and taxation.

JD Certificate in International & Comparative Law

Consistent with the ever-expanding global nature of legal practice, WashULaw’s Certificate in International and Comparative Law provides students with the skills and expertise to pursue impactful careers throughout the world. The Certificate offers JD students a strong foundation in international and comparative law, as well as specialized training appropriate to their practice interests. Students can focus their course of study on areas such as international human rights, international intellectual property, and international commercial arbitration.
