Memorial Service Held for Whitney R. Harris, Nazi War Prosecutor, Institute Namesake

A memorial service for Whitney R. Harris was held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 in Washington University's Graham Chapel.

Whitney R. Harris, the namesake of the law school’s Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute, passed away on April 22, 2010.  He was 97.  Mr. Harris was the last surviving prosecutor during the trial of the principal Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg. A great friend of the law school, he was a firm supporter of efforts to promote the rule of law. Mr. Harris was the author of numerous articles and books, including his first-hand account of the Nazi war trials, Tyranny on Trial. Most recently, he spoke by video to the Harris Institute Conference at the Brookings Institution, endorsing the launch of a Convention on Crimes Against Humanity.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, also a longtime supporter of the law school, and many relatives.
