Law School Hires Five Outstanding Faculty Members, Names First Senior Professor of Practice

Washington University Law has hired five outstanding new faculty members: law and economics scholar Scott A. Baker, of University of North Carolina; environmental law expert Robert R. Kuehn, of the University of Alabama; juvenile justice expert Mae Quinn, of the University of Tennessee; chaired professor in corporate finance Hillary A. Sale, of the University of Iowa; and jurisprudence scholar Brian Tamanaha, of  St. John’s University.

Additionally, Charles Burson, former White House advisor, has been named the law school’s first Senior Professor of Practice. [more]

Scott Baker

Scott A. Baker, an expert in law and economics, has accepted a position as professor of law. He will teach Torts, Contracts, and Game Theory & the Law. Baker previously was a professor of law at the University of North Carolina since 2002. [more]

Robert Kuehn

Robert R. Kuehn, an expert in environmental law, clinical legal education, and legal ethics, has accepted a position as professor of law. He also will join Maxine Lipeles as co-director of the Interdisciplinary Environmental Clinic. Kuehn previously was at the University of Alabama, where he has served as professor of law and associate dean for skills programs since 2001. He also served as a professor at Tulane University, where he directed the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic. [more]

Mae Quinn

Mae Quinn, who specializes in juvenile justice representation, problem-solving courts, and clinical legal education, has accepted an offer to join the faculty as a professor of law. She will be teaching Criminal Law and in the Civil Justice Clinic, which will be developing a youth advocacy component. Quinn previously was a member of the University of Tennessee College of Law since 2005. [more]

Hillary Sale

Hillary A. Sale was most recently the F. Arnold Daum Professor of Corporate Finance and Law at the University of Iowa. An expert in securities and corporate governance, Sale will be installed as the Walter D. Coles Chair in the law school. In addition to teaching in the law school, she plans to offer a business course through the Olin Business School. [more]

Brian Tamanaha

Brian Tamanaha, a renowned jurisprudence scholar, has accepted a position as professor of law at Washington University Law, effective January 1, 2010. He is the Chief Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo Professor of Law at St. John’s University School of Law, where he has served on the faculty since 1995. During his tenure, he also was coordinator of new faculty scholarship from 2002-05 and interim dean from 1998-99. [more]
