Finding Books

Use the links in the following chart to search online catalogs for relevant books or journal titles. You can try a word search using specific words for your issues. For example, the search “mergers and acquisitions” brings up over 300 hits. You could then limit those results with a subtopic or perhaps by date (there are 76 hits for items published after 2004). If you find a good source, you can also try searching on its subject headings.

For materials found using WorldCat that are not available at Washington University, you will need to request the item via Interlibrary Loan using the Law School Illiad link. If you have any questions or are unable to do a successful search, please ask a Reference Librarian for help.

Contents & Comments

Washington University Libraries Catalog

Materials available on the Hilltop campus. Make sure you do not restrict your search to Law Library holdings only.

A union catalog of academic libraries in Missouri--includes all libraries in the University of Missouri system and Saint Louis University. Make sure you choose the Law Library as the delivery site. Great source but due dates are short.

WorldCat (over 40 million items) change to worldcat, not first search

Use this source for materials located in libraries other than Washington University.  Materials may be requested via Interlibrary Loan (ILL) using Law School ILLIAD.  Alternatively, you can do the following:

  • Go to WorldCat (available only on campus or through the proxy server) and execute your search.
  • Identify a book in your results list that you want to request via Interlibrary Loan
  • Click on the "Law School ILLIAD" link on the WorldCat screen.
  • A pop-up window will appear with a link titled "First Time Users"
  • Click on this link and fill in the resulting form.

    Finding Journal Articles

Journal articles are a great source of information and possibly the most current. You will want to conduct your searches in the legal journal databases, as well as the nonlegal databases. The chart below lists general legal and non-legal databases as well as some specific to intellectual property. Once you find an article you want, check the online catalog to see if the journal is available on Campus or online. The Law Library's current journals are kept on Reserve (behind the Circulation Desk); older journals are bound and shelved on the 5th floor and the 1st floor, in alphabetical order.  You will need to check the online catalog for its location.   If a title is not held on campus, the library can obtain it via Interlibrary Loan. Just fill out the online form, and we'll do the rest.
