Whitney Harris World Law Institute will present “LaGrand, Avena, Sanchez-Llamas, and Medellin – U.S. Law in International Courts, International Law in U.S. Courts” and “Private Litigation and Arbitration Practice Before International Tribunals and Organizations" by Catherine Amirfar.

Catherine Amirfar is a partner in Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, Litigation Department whose practice focuses on international arbitration, international litigation and public international law.  Ms. Amirfar has worked on a variety of public international law cases, including: representing Mexico before the International Court of Justice in Avena and other Mexican Nationals (Mexico v. United States of America), a dispute with the United States of America concerning violations of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations; representing a Finnish company involved in a dispute between Argentina and Uruguay in the International Court of Justice; acting as counsel for a group of immigrant detainees arrested post-September 11 before the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention; and advising the International Center for Transitional Justice on legal issues relating to the establishment of the first U.S. truth and reconciliation commission.

Ms. Amirfar received a J.D. degree cum laude from New York University Law School in 2000 and a B.A. in International Relations, with highest honors, from Stanford University in 1995. [more]
