Harris Institute Student Fellowships

DAGEN-LEGOMSKY STUDENT FELLOWSHIP

Through the generosity of Mrs. Margaret Dagen, and in honor of Professor Stephen H. Legomsky, the Harris Institute awards two fellowships each year to students for summer work in the field of international or comparative law.

The Dagen-Legomsky Hague Fellowship is an award of one full-tuition scholarship to The Hague Academy of International Law during the summer. Sponsored by the International Court of Justice, this intensive three-week summer course is indisputably the world's premier summer program in international law. Its faculty includes the leading international law scholars in the world. The Hague Academy reserves one spot each summer for the recipient of the Dagen-Legomsky Fellowship.

The Dagen-Legomsky Summer Public Interest Fellowship provides financial support to one student each summer in support of public interest work abroad. Applicants submit a statement of purpose and a proposed placement. The Harris Institute not only provides financial support to the recipient, but also assists in securing the desired placement. The 2007 Dagen-Legomsky Fellow spent her summer working UNICEF in Cambodia.

This endeavor is made possible by a generous grant from Steven Cash Nickerson and the United States Institute of Peace.  In conjunction with this “Crimes Against Humanity Initiative,” five Fellows have been appointed who will be performing valuable research on the commission of atrocities from 1900-2009 and working on both the draft convention and the book during the documentation process.
