Financial Aid

In addition to awarding scholarships and fellowships based on merit and other designated qualifications, the School of Law makes every effort to meet the minimum financial needs of each enrolled student. We cannot always accomplish this objective, however. We grant financial assistance on an annual basis, and, in subsequent years, students who have been awarded assistance receive priority.

Consistent with the policy of most professional schools, we assume that you will bear the primary cost burden of your educational expenses. Therefore, long-term loans are the primary source of financial assistance.

The School of Law's Financial Aid Committee administers all forms of financial assistance available through Washington University. The sources of aid are the School of Law's own scholarship funds, funds under the Perkins Loan program, the Subsidized Stafford Loan program, the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan program and various credit-based alternative loan programs.

Applicants for admission to the first year who are seeking a loan through a bank or a state agency should send all loan forms to the Financial Aid Office:

Financial Aid
Washington University School of Law
Campus Box 1120
One Brookings Drive
St. Louis, MO 63130-4899

If we receive the completed financial aid forms on or before March 1, we will make every effort to notify you of scholarship and loan awards before the April 1 deadline for first deposit.

The School of Law makes admission decisions without regard to any request for financial aid. We do not, however, award loans and scholarships until after we have admitted an applicant.

If you have any questions about financial aid at Washington University School of Law, please call (314) 935-4605 or e-mail eckrich@wulaw.wustl.edu.

Additional Sources of Financial Aid

The School of Law has compiled a List of Scholarships and Loans available to law school students.  These sources are possible alternatives to the funding available through Washington University.  Since none of these financial aid sources are associated with Washington University, we cannot guarantee the existence or availability of the scholarships and loans included in this list.  For more information on the scholarships and loans listed, please contact the applicable organizations rather than the Washington University School of Law Admissions Office or Financial Aid Office.
