Profile

Janet Laybold is the law school’s associate dean of admissions, career services, and student services, as well as a lecturer in law. Dean Laybold began her administrative career in legal education at DePaul University, where she served in various positions, including director of admissions before becoming assistant dean of career services. She then joined Washington University School of Law as director of admissions, was subsequently promoted to assistant and then associate dean of admissions and financial aid, and became associate dean of admissions and student services before attaining her current position. She has held leadership roles with the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Section on Student Services, Association for Legal Career Professionals (NALP), and the Careers Committee for the Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. She was awarded best project for a metropolitan bar group by the American Bar Association and received the David C. Hilliard Award for outstanding service to the legal profession. Her pro bono activities have included training and reviewing mediation volunteers for the Center for Conflict Resolution, a joint project of the Circuit Court of Cook County and the Chicago Bar Association. She also has provided mediation services to the Juvenile Court of Cook County, Chicago Transit Authority, and State of Illinois Department of Human Rights.
