Competitions

The School offers a rich program of lawyering skills competitions to the curricula. Both first-year and upper-class students are encouraged to refine their lawyering techniques through our various lawyer advocacy competitions.  Some of the competitions earn academic credit, and all of the competitions provide excellent training in valuable lawyering skills and professional values.  The trial and appellate skills competitions are administered by the Trial and Advocacy Program, and client counseling, negotiation, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) competitions are administered by the ADR Program.  For more information about the Competitions administered by the Trial and Advocacy Program, click on your area of interest. Moot Court Competitions

Washington University has one of the oldest and largest moot court programs, which includes the Giles Rich Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Jessup International, Niagara International, Environmental, National Appellate Advocacy, William E. McGee National Civil Rights, and Wiley Rutledge Moot Court Competitions.  Links will open in new browser windows.

This year Washington University School of Law's Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition team took first place in the Dillard Competition for the Best Memorial out of all the national and regional competitions in the world.  The WU team's brief not only won over  more than 120 U.S. law schools that competed this year, but the literally hundreds of teams that competed in more than 100 countries around the world.  Links will open in new browser windows

Trial Team Competition

The Trial Team had similar success, finishing second in the nation in the National Trial Competition.  The competition involved 135 law schools, with WU representing our region as the region's champions.  At the national level, WU competed against 24 schools representing all regions of the country.
