Washington University School of Law saluted its graduates and their families at Commencement Ceremonies on May 20. Some 304 J.D.s and 80 LL.M.s made up the May 2011 list of graduates. All August 2010, December 2010, May 2011, August 2011, and December 2011 law graduates were invited to participate in both the university and law school ceremonies.

The festivities began with a law class photo outside the Olin Library, followed by
Washington University’s ceremony in the Brookings Quadrangle. Elie Wiesel, a Nobel laureate, Holocaust survivor, and human rights activist, delivered the Commencement address.

Immediately following the university ceremony, Washington University School of Law’s ceremony began with the law school processional and was held under the tent at Seeley G. Mudd Field. The J.D. Class Marshals were Jarrod D. Reece and Kristen K. Erickson, and the LL.M. Class Marshal was Xiao Chen.

At the law school ceremony, Dean Kent Syverud, the Ethan A.H. Shepley University Professor, delivered the Remarks to the Graduates. Alicia McDonnell (JD ’95), a member of the law school’s National Council, offered the Welcome to the Legal Profession. Joseph A. Litman, juris doctoris candidate, served as the Voice of the Class.

Janet Bolin, associate dean of admissions and student services, presented honors and awards. Laura Rosenbury, associate dean for research and faculty development and professor of law, and Colleen Erker, assistant dean for academic services and registrar, read the names for the presentation of diplomas.
