Law Commencement 2009

Washington University Law saluted its graduates and their families at Commencement Ceremonies on May 15. Some 274 J.D.s, 58 LL.M.s, and one J.S.D. made up the May 2009 list of graduates.

The festivities began with a class photo outside the Olin Library, followed by Washington University’s ceremony in the Brookings Quadrangle. Wendy Kopp, founder and chief executive officer of  Teach For America, delivered the Commencement Address at the University ceremony. All August 2008, December 2008, May 2009, August 2009, and December 2009 law graduates were invited to participate in both the University and law school ceremonies.

The law school processional began Washington University Law's ceremony, which was held under the tent at Seeley G. Mudd Field. Class marshals were Colin O’Brien, Kevin Schopp, and Young-Chae Lee.

At the law school ceremony, Kent D. Syverud, dean and the Ethan A.H. Shepley University Professor, welcomed attendees and delivered remarks to the graduates. Susan Nell Rowe, J.D./M.S.W ’83, president of Washington University Law’s Alumni Council and ex-officio of the law school’s National Council, offered the Welcome to the Legal Profession. J.D. candidate Caldwell Collins served as the Voice of the Class of 2009.

Janet Bolin, associate dean of admissions & student services, presented honors and awards. Pauline Kim, associate dean for research & faculty development and professor of law, and Colleen Erker, assistant dean for academic services and registrar, read the names for the presentation of diplomas.

A reception followed in Anheuser-Busch Hall.
