CSO Personnel

Mike Spivey, Assistant Dean for Career Services, Strategy and Marketing, joined the office in July 2008 with extensive higher education administration experience. Prior to joining the CSO, Dean Spivey served as Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment at Vanderbilt University Law School. While at Vanderbilt, Spivey also served as co-chair for the NCAA Athletic Department Accreditation of Vanderbilt, on the university-wide disability committee, and as an invited speaker for numerous pre-law programs nationwide. Mike Spivey has taught business-ethics at the collegiate level and has served as a faculty member for the Law School Admissions Council’s (LSAC) new admissions personnel. He received a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from The University of Alabama, and has completed his doctoral course-work at Vanderbilt in Higher Education Administration. He is an inductee of the Blackburn Honorary Society for recognition of ethics in leadership.

Rebecca L. Brown, J.D. Advisor, J.D. (WU Law 96) began her law practice in commercial litigation at Bryan Cave L.L.P., St. Louis.  She later transitioned into an in-house position with a large financial institution.  Most recently she was Associate General Counsel at Washington University.  Rebecca also brings several years of academic and career counseling experience serving as an advisor in the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University. As a WU Law student, Rebecca was an editor for the Journal of Urban & Contemporary Law and clerked at Shook Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City.   Married to a ’95 WU Law grad, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family, running marathons and sits on the boards of several area non-profit organizations.

Kristine C. Kay, Data Coordinator, joined the office in June 2009 to manage and analyze data in order to improve the School of Law’s marketing strategies and graduate placement.  In the two years since she received her bachelor’s in International Relations and French from Lake Forest College, she has worked at various non-profits, including the Law Alumni & Development Office at Washington University.

Rachel Braaf Koehler, Judicial Clerkship Advisor, is a former associate with Gallop, Johnson & Neuman, L.C., where she focused on labor and employment and litigation matters.  She began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. of the Supreme Court of Missouri.  She is a graduate of Washington University School of Law and previously served as the Associate Director of Career Services.  While at the School of Law as a student, she participated in the Congressional and Administrative Law Clinic, working for Congressman Richard Gephardt and Senator Robert Torricelli.

Liz Miles, Administrative Assistant, joined the office in June 2009.  She was employed at Schnuck Markets, Inc. for 16 years before joining Washington University in May, 2003, as Department Secretary in the Parent Programs Office of Alumni and Development and continued in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions assisting the director for the past two years.  She is currently enrolled at University College. 

Sarah A. Narkiewicz, LL.M. in Tax Advisor, is a former associate with Husch & Eppenberger and The Stolar Partnership, where she focused on tax and employee benefit matters.  Sarah handles career advising for Tax LL.M. students and serves as a Lecturer in Law for the Tax LL.M. program.  She also assists Tax LL.M. students with class selection and miscellaneous matters.  Sarah is a graduate of Washington University School of Law and has her B.S. in Accounting from Saint Louis University.

Erik A. Paulson, Associate Director of Career Services, joined the office in June of 2009.  He is a graduate of Washington University School of Law.  Most recently he worked for Barken & Bakewell, LLP.  Prior to his practice, he worked as an account executive for a literary magazine, as well as a financial analyst for an investment bank.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College.

Katherine P. Scannell,  Associate Director of Outreach, joined the office in August of 2008 to establish and enhance relationships with all types of employers, including law firms and companies.  She is a graduate of University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law and Washington University.

Angela Smith, Recruiting Manager, has been with the Career Services Office since October 1997. Angela manages all recruiting programs and job fairs for Career Services.  Including OCI (On-Campus Interviewing), Off-Campus & Resume Collection Programs. She also manages the web-based recruiting software at Symplicity.com. Angela is also a NALP member.

Carol A. Vizzier, Director of Career Services & Public Interest, joined the office in January 2007 charged with building a strong and creative CSO component in public interest and government programs.  She has a litigation and public interest background and has worked in private law firms as well as with Gay Men’s Health Crisis, the MFY Legal Services Mental Health Law Project, and Bronx AIDS Services. She also served as assistant director for public service at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, where she coordinated that firm’s pro bono program.  In addition to her legal experience, Carol has several years of experience in law school student services administration. She received her bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and her JD from Cornell University.
