Tribute to Andrew Jackson Higgins, JD '48

The Honorable Andrew Jackson Higgins, JD ‘48, a native of Platte City, Missouri, died September 14, 2011. He was 90. In 1960, Governor James T. Blair appointed him Judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit (Platte, Clinton, Andrew and DeKalb Counties). He resigned in June 1964, when the Supreme Court of Missouri appointed him Commissioner on the Supreme Court. Governor Joseph P. Teasdale appointed him a judge of the Supreme Court in 1979, and he was Chief Justice 1985-1987. Professionally, he sought to improve the system for abused, neglected and delinquent children and received many awards for his work on their behalf. He received the law school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007.
