Memorial Tribute for Warren R. Maichel
Alumnus Warren R. Maichel, AB '50, JD '52, passed away on December 18, 2010 at the age of 81. A Memorial Service will be held on January 6, 2011 from 4-5 p.m. in Graham Chapel on the Washington University Danforth Campus. A reception will follow at the law school from 5-7 p.m. in the Crowder Courtyard, Anheuser-Busch Hall (No. 301). The law school community is encouraged to attend both the service and the reception.
Mr. Maichel was a longtime friend of the law school, including supporting an annual Scholars in Law Scholarship since 1984 and serving for many years as an adjunct professor. Most recently, he was of counsel at Husch Blackwell LLP in St. Louis, where his legal career spanned more than 50 years. During his distinguished career, he was a partner at Peper Martin Jensen Maichel & Hetlage and head of its tax department. An expert in tax law and trust and estates, his practice encompassed all aspects of state and local taxation; all phases of individual, corporate, and partnership taxation; personal estate planning; representation of personal representatives and trustees in the administration of estates and trusts; representation of beneficiaries of estates and trusts; and services as personal representatives of estates and trustee of trusts.
Mr. Maichel graduated from Washington University School of Law in 1952 where he was Editor in Chief of the Washington University Law Quarterly. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University in 1950. Among his professional affiliations, he was a longtime member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, as well as a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Missouri Bar. Among his recognitions, he was repeatedly cited in The Best Lawyers in America.
