Harry J. Joe, JD ’75, is a board-certified specialist in immigration and nationality law, and a shareholder at Jenkens & Gilchrist in Dallas, Texas. He practices federal administrative law before the United States Departments of Homeland Security, State, and Labor and before the United States federal courts.
Joe founded Jenkens’ Immigration Law Practice Group in 1986, when he joined the firm. He previously managed his own firm and worked at Brewer & Price in Irving, Texas. Joe is listed in The Best Lawyers in America,Texas Super Lawyers of 2003, D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas–Fort Worth, and National Law Journal’s Who’s Who in Immigration Law.
A member of the American Bar Association, Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, Irving Bar Association, and Dallas Bar Association, he also is a member of and has held leadership roles with the American Immigration Lawyers Association, State Bar of Texas, and Dallas Asian-American Bar Association. The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association presented him with its Trailblazer Award in 2003.
Joe serves on the Judicial Nominations Committee for the city of Dallas. He was a city councilman and mayor pro tem of Irving, Texas. Joe is a member of the School of Law’s National Council, an adjunct faculty member at Southern Methodist University School of Law, and a member of the Planning Committee for the University of Texas School of Law’s Annual Symposium on Immigration and Nationality Law. He also has published numerous articles and several book chapters on immigration law.
He and his wife, Liz, have three children, David, Jason, and Carolyn.
