Join 11 experienced mediators for a highly interactive 2.5 day or 5 day training in civil mediation and family mediation. Participants will receive extensive, one-on-one coaching and written evaluations of their skill development in mediation role-plays. 

Program Schedule 
Days 1-5: 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Morning, lunch and afternoon breaks. Lunch and snacks provided.)

Conflict Resolution Theories of Negotiation and Mediation

Strategies for Ethical Mediators and Attorney Advocates

Skills for Mediators and Attorney Advocates:

Listening, questioning, reframing, uncovering interests and concerns, generating and prioritizing options, coming to agreement.

Mediation Process:

Client preparation for mediation, 10 stages of mediation, confidentiality, neutrality, tools for overcoming impasse, and use of experts (e.g., attorneys, social workers, accountants).

Family Legal Issues:

Family court rules and procedures, physical and legal custody, "best interests of the child," child support, property evaluation and division, and post-divorce modifications.

Family Dynamics:

Child development, domestic violence, family dysfunction, the role of third parties (e.g., siblings, step-parents, grandparents), mental health and substance abuse, child neglect and abuse, supervised visitation/exchange, and community resources.

20.0 or 40.0 hours Missouri CLE Credit, including 1.0 Ethics Hours.  
Social Work CEUs available.

This training meets the Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 mediation education requirements for general civil mediators and Rule 88 for family mediators. Illinois participants should review the requirements of Illinois Supreme Court Rule 99 and local rules. Missouri and Illinois Social Work CEUs are available.
