Transfer and Visiting Students
Transfer Admissions
The School of Law only reviews transfer applications for Fall semester admission. Qualified transfer applicants (as determined by the admissions committee) who have completed one year at an ABA-accredited law school are admitted to the second year class on a space available basis. Competitive candidates are typically in the top 20-25% of their current law school class with an A-/B+ average. The School of Law will accept for transfer a maximum of 29 semester hours earned at a student's previous institution (the number of semester hours earned by our first-year day students). A minimum of 22 credits is required for transfer. Credit is not usually granted for law school courses beyond the first year.
The School of Law uses a paperless application process. All applications must be submitted online through LSAC. All accompanying documents must be submitted electronically either as an attachment to your application, a submission to LSAC or as an email attachment. No paper submissions will be accepted for review.
Transfer applicants must submit all of the following materials:
- Completed application form. Transfer applicants must use the "transfer application". If the "regular application" is used your application will not be processed. APPLY ONLINE
- Law school transcript
- Letter of good standing from current law school.
- LSDAS report
- Personal statement which should include the reasons for requesting the transfer.
Transfer applicants may submit the following: (optional materials)
- Resume
- Letters of recommendation
Important Dates
The School of Law will begin to accept transfer applications on March 1st. Applications received before this date or transfer applications submitted using the "regular" as opposed to "transfer" application will be improperly processed. All application packets that are in and complete by March 31st will be considered Early Action. Early Action acceptances are not binding on applicants. EA decisions will be released in late April. Regular Action admissions decisions are generally not made before July. All files are reviewed on a rolling basis. Although the deadline is August 1, applicants are encouraged to apply earlier as opposed to later.
