Public Service Project Hours Form

What is public service? Public service work is broadly defined, but the work must be uncompensated or for which no academic credit is received. To be recognized as public service at Washington University School of Law, work performed must fall under one of the following categories:

  1. Work for a non-profit or charitable organization;
  2. Work for governmental or quasi-governmental organization;
  3. Work related to the administration of a public service program; or
  4. Work related to educating individuals or groups about the law.

Volunteer training is included in this definition.

What is not public service?

  • Going to a speaker or presentation (unless it is included as part of a training program)
  • Sitting at a table (tabling) for a student organization
