If you want to increase your knowledge of United States or international law to better operate in today's global environment, we invite you to apply to the Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program for International Students at Washington University. Here you will interact with students from diverse legal cultures and with faculty members who have expertise in both United States and international law.

You can design your own program to fit your particular career goals - choosing to concentrate in a specialized field such as corporate or environmental law, or selecting a more general course of study that will give you broad knowledge of fundamental United States and international legal principles.

Our School of Law has 39 full-time faculty members whose interests and experiences result in a rich variety of courses.

Washington University's special graduate program for international students results in a number of advantages if you are a practicing attorney in your home country or a recent graduate from a law school in your country interested in studying the U.S. legal system at an U.S. law school.

  • Gain practical and theoretical knowledge of United States and international law.
  • Develop expertise in a specialized field of law.
  • Strengthen your ability to advocate for clients who have business dealings in the United States or with United States companies and firms.
  • Improve your representation of United States clients who want to conduct business in your country.
  • Build an international network of professional contacts.
  • Refine your English skills and understanding of United States culture.
  • Earn a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from an accredited United States law school, which allows you to take the bar exam in New York and 10 other states.

"The LLM program at Wash U has been a life changing experience for me.  Coming from a developing common law country that mainly follows British precedent, I have been enriched with learning the evolution of US common law that is both aggressive and progressive. At Wash U I learned how to apply the law through legal ideas more than legal precedent. I was thoroughly impressed with the vast knowledge, experience and helpfulness of faculty and staff. I have made lifelong friends in the US and all over the world who form an invaluable global network." Lynda Tabuya, LL.M. '04

Information on US VISA Process:

Washington University School of Law has always been proactive in helping students with their visas.  Due to recent events, we expect that visa processing will be slower than usual this year.  We urge you to get your applications in early and we promise to work on your visa documents early and do everything we can to help you in this regard.
