Ryan Rippel leads the Gates Foundation’s U.S. poverty and economic mobility learning initiative. He sits within the office of the Chief Strategy Officer, a new portfolio created within the Foundation to explore cross-foundation learning and strategic initiatives. Prior to his current role, he served as a program officer in the Foundation’s Global Development division. His projects included a five-grant initiative called the Global Program for Inclusive Municipal Governance, as well as a series of grants focused on generating municipal revenues for pro-poor initiatives. On two occasions he served as interim chief of staff to the CEO. He has also served as a policy analyst to the director of the Foundation’s agricultural development program, and as chief of staff to the co-chair, William H. Gates, Sr. Mr. Rippel is a graduate of Harvard College, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard Law School.
