First Class Assignment

For the first class in Civil Procedure, please study pp. 63-72 in Friedenthal, Miller, Sexton & Hershkoff, "Civil Procedure" (9th ed. 2005) and be prepared to discuss Pennoyer v. Neff. You should also read the full faith and credit clause (U.S. Const., art. IV, sec. 1, on p.227 of the 2005 Supplement), the due process clause of the fourteenth amendment (p.229 of the Supplement) and the statute implementing the full faith and credit clause (28 U.S.C. sec. 1738, on p. 274 of the Supplement).

As general background for this course, you should read pp.1-21 of the casebook. The summary will give you a good foundation for beginning the course because we will spend the semester studying most of the procedures described in the summary.

NOTE: All students should be prepared to discuss Pennoyer v. Neff at the first class. Thanks.
