LAWYERING PRACTICE EXTERNSHIP students learn advocacy and litigation skills working under the supervision of field supervisors in government law offices or legal departments of tax-exempt charitable organizations.

Students have the opportunity to engage in various phases of lawyering practice, including interviewing, counseling, investigation, drafting, negotiation, litigation, and settlement. Depending upon the placement, externs work on civil, criminal, lawmaking, or policymaking matters.

Students also meet for regular class meetings that cover professional development topics.

Professor Mary L. Perry directs this externship program.
