Washington University Law Students - Summer International Studies

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY LAW students and faculty gain cross-cultural insights about other legal systems and the development of the law in other countries through a variety of programs, including legal externships with governmental, nongovernmental, and intergovernmental organizations in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Recent student externships and internships include those with the Legal Aid Board in Durban and the Children’s Rights Center in Durban, South Africa; the Legal Resources Center in Accra, Ghana; the Church of Northern India in Nagpur; the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Nairobi, Kenya; and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), Bridges Across Borders, and the UN Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking (UNIAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. Professors Karen Tokarz, Kim Norwood, and Leila Sadat direct these opportunities, which are coordinated by Associate Dean Michael Peil.
